JOB OVERVIEW

The Pantry Assistant will assist the Executive Chef in providing management ordering/receiving/storing of food products for the community’s Dining Services operations. These responsibilities include but are not limited to understanding the menu ingredients, maintaining a proper inventory of ingredients, ensuring ingredients are properly stored to maximize shelf life, notify DSD of any vendor product problems, ensure all poor quality products are returned and credited. Responsible for handling foods in accordance with sanitary procedures and Sunrise quality service standards and complies with all federal, state, local regulatory procedures regarding food production and food presentation.

Job Description




Essential Duties

The unique responsibilities for this role include but are not limited to the essential functions listed as follows:



Dining Services Operations



  • Purchases and assists in management of food cost.

  • Demonstrates, incorporates knowledge of ingredients needed for daily production.

  • Supports and adheres to product order guide and primary vendor program as outlined in Sunrise Menu Programming and Purchasing.

  • Ensures all products ordered and received for menus ensuring cost and portion control.

  • Facilitates food production through proper inventory controls.

  • Champions community goals of food quality achievement by monitoring and evaluating freshness of products ordered and received.

  • Assists in the ordering ingredients and supplies for the Bistro, Banquets and catering events and other assigned dining venues.



Record Keeping



  • Reviews to ensure all records regarding food and supply purchases are accurate and completed on time.

  • Reviews to ensure the rotation (FIFO: First In / First Out) and security of such foods and supplies are maintained per Sunrise quality standards and regulatory compliance.

  • Responsible for maintaining all HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) records for the kitchen storage areas.



Resident Services



  • Promotes customer satisfaction by ensuring all foods and supplies are ordered and delivered as needed for menu production.



Safety and Risk Management



  • Partners with community team to ensure community is in compliance with national/provincial regulations pertaining to occupational health and safety requirements and promotion of Risk Management programs and policies; adherence to safety rules and regulations.

  • Ensures and practices safety procedures at all times including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), fire extinguishers, MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) and Lockout Tagout procedures.

  • Ensures all work storage areas are maintained in a healthful and safe condition, HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) applications.

  • Ensures food is protected from contamination and safe food handling is practiced at all times to prevent an outbreak of food borne illness.



Financial Management



  • Ensures all orders are made with approved Sunrise vendors.

  • Ensures all deliveries are accounted for properly and credits taken as needed.

  • Ensures all invoices for all deliveries are properly documented, signed, and accounted for.

  • Ensures storage areas are properly secured.

  • Maintains compliance in assigned required training and all training required by state/province or other regulating authorities as applicable to this role to ensure that Sunrise standards are always met.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Experience and Qualifications



  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience working in a kitchen environment as a cook or clerk.
  • Maintains current Food Services Sanitation certificate; ServeSafe certified.

  • Ability to handle multiple priorities.

  • Possess written and verbal skills for effective communication.

  • Competent in organizational, time management skills.

  • Demonstrates good judgment, problem solving.

  • Demonstration of proficiency in computer skills, Microsoft Office (Windows, Outlook, Excel) and Sunrise applications with the ability to learn new applications.

  • As applicable, all Sunrise team members who drive a Sunrise vehicle must review and sign the Driver job description and understand the key essential duties for safety and regulatory compliance.

  • Ability to work weekends, evenings and flexible hours, available for our customers at peak service delivery days and times.
