JOB OVERVIEW

The Bartender is responsible for beverage hospitality and services in the bar, lounge and other social areas in the community. In this role, the Bartender will greet, assist with beverage selection and serve our residents, family members and guests while assisting and maintaining a high quality, positive, safe physical and social environment. The Bartender is responsible for maintaining a clean and sanitized work area, clears and resets tables, set up the bar and lounge for hospitality service and restocks bar for next day service.

RESPONSIBILITIES & QUALIFICATIONS

Essential Duties

Resident and Guest Service



  • Provides hospitality beverage service to residents, family members and guests while maintaining and exceeding Sunrise hospitality and service standards.

  • Assists residents with beverage selections and responds to pertinent questions about beverage items.

  • Practices safe, sanitary food and beverage handling and service.

  • Reports any changes and or concerns about resident beverage consumption or change of conditions to supervisor.

  • Encourages socializing activities with our residents in part of customer engagement however alcohol consumption is not allowed while performing bartender duties.

  • Refers to and follows the Sunrise House Rule, “No Gifts or Tips” policy for guidelines and compliance concerning gratuity from residents, family members and guests.



General Duties



  • Reviews, Tableside dining tablet, and SCC, to learn pertinent information and any resident’s physical and behavioral changes.

  • Practices and observes all safety and risk management and prevention procedures.

  • Adheres to universal precautions and all infection control guidelines.

  • Maintains Sunrise Senior Living standards of appearance and cleanliness; maintains personal sanitation, hygiene and health standards.

  • Maintains and protects the confidentiality of resident information at all times.

  • Attends in-services as required.



Work Area



  • Maintains a neat and sanitized work area.

  • Clears and resets tables for hospitality service.

  • Prepares the set up the bar and lounge for service.

  • Restocks the bar for next day service.

  • Maintains communication with Supervisor regarding inventory of products and services per Sunrise procurement procedures and service standards.



Risk Management and General Safety



  • Partners with community team to ensure community is in compliance with national/provincial regulations pertaining to occupational health and safety requirements and promotion of Risk Management programs and policies; adherence to safety rules and regulations.

  • Practices safety procedures at all times including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), fire extinguishers, Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and Lockout Tagout procedures.



Training, and Contributing to Team Success



  • Participates actively as a member of a team and committed to working toward team goals.

  • Demonstrates in daily interactions with others, our Team Member Credo.

  • Commits to serving our residents and guests through our Principles of Service.

  • Contributes in the overall engagement programs and processes (customer and team member engagement) including participating in the team member engagement survey and engagement improvement planning workshops.

  • Attends regular meetings; Town Hall, Department Team Meetings, Cross Over, and others as directed by the Supervisor / Department Coordinator.

  • Maintains compliance in assigned required training and all training required by state/province or other regulating authorities as applicable to this role to ensure that Sunrise standards are always met.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Experience and Qualifications


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed throughout this job description are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.



  • Dining Services and Bartending experience preferred

  • Certification may be required per state/province requirements

  • Demonstration of basic level mathematical skills; ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure

  • Must comply with minimum age requirement per state/province regulations to serve alcohol (18-21 years of age depending on state/province regulations)

  • Able to make responsible choices and decisions and act in a resident’s best interest

  • Ability to handle multiple priorities

  • Possess written and verbal skills for effective communication

  • Ability to effectively present information and presentation delivery in a small group setting or individualized situations to residents, family members, guests and social events hosted by the community

  • Competent in organizational, time management skills

  • Demonstrates good judgment, problem solving and decision making skills

  • As applicable, all Sunrise team members who drive a Sunrise vehicle must review and sign the Driver job description and understand the key essential duties for safety and regulatory compliance
